99 CEO CHANGES IN MARCH, 287 IN Q1
CHICAGO, April 6, 2011 – The number of chief executive officer changes remained virtually unchanged in March, as 99 CEOs announced their departures during the month, up slightly from 92 in February. Overall, CEO turnover through the first quarter is down 15 percent from 2010, according to the latest report on CEO departures released Wednesday by global outplacement consultancy Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc.
The 99 CEO changes recorded last month were 17 percent lower than a year ago, when 119 CEOs left their post. This marks the second consecutive month that CEO changes were lower than the corresponding month a year earlier.
So far this year, a total of 287 CEO changes have been tracked, down from 340 in the first three months of 2010. The first-quarter total is was slightly higher than the previous quarter when 267 CEO departures were announced.
