92 CEO CHANGES LED BY FINANCIAL, HEALTH CARE

Turnover among the nation’s top executives fell slightly in February as 92 chief executive officers announced their departures, down from 96 in January.  February departures were 30 percent lower than the 132 exits recorded the same month a year ago, according to the monthly report on CEO turnover released Thursday by global outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc.

Through the first two months of the year, a total of 188 CEO departures have been announced, which is down 15 percent from 2010 when 221 chief executives left their posts in January and February.

The financial and government/non-profit sectors saw the heaviest CEO turnover in February, with each losing 14 CEOs.  Health care followed closely with 13 CEO changes, bringing the year-to-date sector total to 22, down from 35 at the same point last year.
